Sheila Mortazavi has over a decade of experience litigating intellectual property matters before federal district and appellate courts, arbitration panels, and the International Trade Commission. She has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement cases in a wide variety of technical areas, including consumer electronics, electrical connectors, automotive components, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Ms. Mortazavi has also represented clients in unfair competition and trademark matters.

Ms. Mortazavi’s practice includes counseling and assisting clients with respect to the scope and validity of both their own intellectual property and that of third parties.

Representative Cases:

  • Bracco Diagnostic, Inc. v. Amersham Health, Inc., case no. 3:03-cv-06025 (2009). The U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey rejected plaintiff Bracco’s $4 billion unfair competition damages claim against client GE Healthcare and ruled that plaintiff Bracco itself had engaged in false advertising.
  • Wireless Agents, LLC v. Amoi Electronics, Inc. et al., case no. 1:06-cv-00492-SS (2006). The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas dismissed with prejudice plaintiff’s claims against client Sony Electronics in a case involving handheld electronic communication devices.
  • FCI USA v. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. et al., case no. 3:01-cv-01192 (2004). After a two-week trial in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the jury found defendants liable for infringement of client FCI’s patents relating to electrical connectors and found that the infringement was willful, leading to a favorable settlement.
